Important announcement to Members, Volunteers, Clients and Supporters

The Leschenault Community Nursery in Bunbury will temporarily close over the winter months to allow the Board to undertake a review aimed at strengthening the organisation and securing its long-term future.

The Nursery will have its last days of operation on Monday 24th August.

For more than 30 years, the not-for-profit nursery has played an important role in propagating and conserving native plants while supplying a diverse range of species across the South West. The nursery has also provided valuable opportunities for community members to volunteer, learn new skills and connect with others.

A review of the organisation’s operations and governance is a necessary step to ensure the organisation remained sustainable and continued to serve the community for many years to come.

Like many community organisations, the nursery has experienced financial challenges in the current economic climate, as well as increased competition from commercial nurseries now offering native plant varieties.

The Leschenault Community Nursery is a much-loved community institution and it is important that we take the time to carefully assess our operating model and determine the best path forward.

We are committed to ensuring the nursery continues to provide opportunities for members of the community, including seniors, people living with disability and other volunteers, to socialise, connect with others and develop propagation and conservation skills.

At the same time, we remain committed to supporting the conservation and diversity of local native plant species and encouraging their use in gardens, landscaping and rehabilitation projects throughout the South West.

All existing orders will be fulfilled and plants will continue to be cared for by qualified personnel during the temporary closure.

The Board is confident that this process will put the nursery in a stronger position for the future, and we look forward to continuing to serve the community and support native plant conservation for many years to come.

The Nursery’s operations are currently being managed directly by the Board with the assistance of volunteers and casual support. Please direct all enquiries regarding the Nursery’s operations, orders, staffing, trading arrangements and future plans to the Board at: board@lcnnativeplantnursery.com.au
